I picked my wedding gown up on Friday from Kay Bridal and it fit horribly (I will write a separate review for them). They refused to alter the gown any further. They insisted that the gown could not be tightened. The gown was practically falling off of me. How could you be comfortable with your bride walking out of your boutique with her dress ill-fitting? My wedding was that following Saturday and I was leaving town that coming Wednesday. At that point, I was definitely panicking. I knew no one would be able to alter my dress in 3 days.
I was referred to Ms. Shirl by my cousin who is also having her wedding gown altered here. She called Ms. Shirl on my way home from Kay Bridal. She said she could see me the next day. I traveled to Ms. Shirl's studio and she went straight to work. She had my gown finished in TWO hours!!!! My dress fit like a glove!
I don't know what I would have done without Ms. Shirl! Amazing amazing work! She is so talented! She joked with my the whole time, I guess she sensed how stressed I was.
Again, I am so thankful for Ms. Shirl for saving my wedding day!

Shirl is such an incredible tailor. I first found PBA on google right before my engagement party. I had bought a very expensive dress on sale that needed to be taken in a couple sizes, and Shirl was amazing. I then went back when I became a bridesmaid to get my dress tailored again. Again perfect. I then took my mom here when her MOB dress arrived about 3 feet too long and Shirl cut the dress, lifted the skirt's hip to the waist, basically she worked a miracle on my mother's dress, perfection.
Then, when I became a bride and the salon had offered to tailor my dress, I came to Shirl with my dress anyway because I realized she treats her customers much better, she's professional, a perfectionist, and also a pleasure to hang out with. A tailor is someone you need to trust with some of the most important garments you'll ever wear. You also end up spending so much time with her since there are numerous fittings involved. You need someone honest who will fix an issue and not talk you out of it too. Shirl is all of these things and more.
I loved my experience with Shirl so much that I invited her to my wedding and was so truly honored to see her face in the crowd. I call her my fairy godmother, and you really have to experience working with her to understand the wonders she does in order to make you look perfect.

Shirl did an awesome job hemming my Kleinfeld's dress! The dress itself has a very full, layered chiffon skirt. She did an incredible job hemming the chiffon carefully and professionally. I was very happy with her handiwork. She also did a bustle for me and it worked perfectly! Shirl took her time to make sure she was doing exactly what I wanted. Her service was personalized and very friendly. I would HIGHLY recommend Philadelphia Bridal Alterations to anyone who is looking for a precise, detailed, and professional gown alteration.

Ms. Shirl! A woman who wears many hats, but more than anything she became my personal lifesaver! Ms. Shirl completed many services for me on such short notice. Some of the services included: altering 5 of my bridesmaid dresses, adding a sash to each bridesmaid dress, altering 2 of my friends' dresses for other weddings, altering my flower girl dresses, altering my wedding dress and to top it off, she created my RECEPTION DRESS from scratch for a destination wedding in less than a week! Miss Shirl was an absolute delight to work with!! She is honestly a magician - I gave her my incredibly complex reception gown that had a lot of embroidery and sequins on it - she was able to make MAJOR alterations in size and it was perfect when I picked it up! She really understands curves and how to make a dress hug in all the right places. I've never worn a piece of clothing more flattering! I'm going to feel like royalty on my wedding day - all thanks to Shirl and her incredible talent. I was so excited that I couldn't even wait to get all the way home before writing this review. Shirl did an amazing job with altering my wedding dress. It was a sample dress so definitely needed some work. Not only did the dress fit like a glove, but every detail was impeccable. Shirl is also very responsive and I knew I was leaving my dress in great hands. Since Shirl started making her own dresses before she started altering them, she really understands how to adjust a dress in the most flattering way possible, and is a true expert at what she does. A huge bonus is that Shirl has an amazing sense of humor (dry and glorious!) which put me at ease during my fittings. I had plenty of options closer to me when I chose who would alter my dress, but am very happy I made the trek from South Philly to see Shirl!

My bustle on my Dress was very in-depth and complicated. I was displeased with the options posed by my bridal salon, so I went on yelp to find someone to help me. The business owner, Shirl, was professional, friendly, responsive and efficient. She made me feel comfortable during the fitting, was clear on methods for me to pay her and proposed pick-up well in advance of the event I needed the dress altered for. Her space is immaculately clean, which I only note for the benefit of inspiring confidence in her organization, work ethic or quality of work. I was very pleased with the outcome. The pricing was more expensive than I expected but I wanted to support Black & Woman- owned business and pay her her worth.

I came to Ms. Shirl with an emergency. I needed to fit into a dress that had no hope of zipping up for a destination wedding. And the alterations needed to be done in a week. She responded by saying it was doable amd for a reasonable price. She opened the hip area and gave me a corset back. By the time she got done, I looked amazing in my dress. Words can not describe how thankful I am for her. She is very professional and her work is top tier. Will definitely use her again. Highly recommend.
